Four-Years Old

Ollie turned four recently so why not an update. Medically speaking, he's in fine shape. His doctor appointment was routine and failed to uncover any biological reasons for his obstinacy. In fact, he has excellent vision. He could read a line of type from the end of a hallway with one eye covered so it's not that he doesn't see the messes I ask him to pick up. They also tested his hearing with some fancy machine that required him to wear headphones and use a clicker. Perfect hearing. So it's not that he doesn't hear me ask him to get in the car and cannot follow directions.* We have been very fortunate that he does seem exceptionally healthy lately. I may have previously mentioned here that for a couple of years he was susceptible to upper respiratory infections that caused him to get sick several times each winter. So far he's only missed one half-day this year for barfing (cause unknown). Admittedly, winter this year has been remarkably mild and dry so it's quite possible that has been a factor. He may be defiant as heck but he's also cute as all get-out and smart as a whip. (I know. It's both cliche and self-serving to offset your child's deficiencies with "he's just so cute and smart.") Another thing he is though is loving and sensitive. He's a great hugger.*In the process of composing this post, Julie has decided that Ollie does, in fact, have a hearing problem because that's the only explanation for his obstinacy.
