Lola at 21
There has been a proliferation of learning lately.I think I may have mentioned in a previous post that Lola knows some of her colors but, she knows all of them now - purple (of course; hopefully not her favorite), red, blue, yellow (the early designation for all colors), pink, brown, orange (which she doesn’t say but prefers to sign), black, and white. So that’s somewhat old news. Here’s something new that almost knocked me off the couch the other night. We have a board book called Opposites with a word and illustration on one page and its opposite on the other. When Julie reads the word on the left-hand page, Lola will read the word on the right. No kidding. (The only other explanation is that she’s memorized the entire book.) There is one funny exception like the orange example: one of the pairs of words is two monkeys, one with his mouth closed - “quiet” - and the other is a monkey yelling - “loud” - and instead of saying “loud” she will scream too. It will make you jump the first time if you’re not expecting it because that girl has quite a voice.
Let’s see...other things worth mentioning...She is working on her last few teeth. She is still picking up new signs and applying them in her daily life. Oh! we got one of those bike trailers recently and she loves it. We’ve been loading up each afternoon and riding over to the train tracks by campus and watching the choo-choos going by. She loves trains. She is working on her ABCs. Sesame Street has this great web site with clips from the show and Lola loves watching as Elmo recites his ABCs with Grover, Patti Labelle, and others. She is modest about her knowledge so if you ask her a question about what she knows, you’re likely to get a coy smile and shoulder shrug.Be sure to check out the latest pictures in My Album
