Ollie Turns 12 (weeks)

000_0038Ollie had his “two” month doctor appointment on Wednesday - almost a whole month late due to scheduling issues - and it turns out he’s as healthy as the first time we took him in a few days after he was born. Here’s some of what we learned:He weighs 13-2/3 pounds. He is 2 feet “tall.” (What do you call it when the height is only horizontal? Oh, “long,” he is 2 feet long. But that kind of makes him sound like a fish.) And his head is 16-1/4 inches around.Just for perspective, at her 15 week check-up, Lola weighed 12 lbs., 3 ounces; she was also 24 inches long and her head was 15-1/2” ‘round. As you can see, Ollie is turning out to be a bigger boy.The poor guy got 3 shots but he handled them quite well. He had a bit of delayed reaction to the first poke since the whole shot thing was new to him and by the third shot his head was red and his cry was loud. But I was expecting much more. I think it is because Lola gets so much more upset now that I forgot infants seem to be less affected psychologically by the pain.
Other than that everything else appeared A-OK.In general, Ollie is doing pretty well. He is just doing the eating-sleeping- crying-growing thing. He is doing really well with holding his head up already. I don’t know what’s “normal” but it seems like he’s a further along than Lola was at the same age. Physically, at least, in most respects, he seems to be moving along the development scale at a faster clip than Lola did. Most nights he wakes up (so I’m told) twice to breastfeed. I having an amazing ability to sleep through almost any disturbance so I’m only called upon when he needs a clean diaper. (Julie is input, I’m output.) But I’m also told that he is a much more efficient eater than Lola was so he wakes up, does his business and it’s right back to bed. He usually starts off the night in his bassinet next to the bed but after the first or second feeding he ends up between Julie and I for the remainder of the night.Julie will post an entry soon and tell you more about the little guy’s personality!
