Fallen Leaf 2013
I suppose I could have just posted these to Facebook but I figure if I was going to subject you to family vacation photos, I could at least present them at a decent resolution (click on any of them to open to a larger size). Believe it or not, I have several more post ideas but we are having too much fun to take the time to put them down on e-paper at the moment. But I kinda like this method any how. Here are a few pictures with commentary from our recent and annual camping trip to Fallen Leaf Lake. They are getting good at helping set up the tent.Ollie is always ready to lend a helping hand:Group photo time. We decided this would be a good place to take a picture every year to watch the changes.Admiring the beauty of Fallen Leaf Lake. The oldest and youngest cousins.Family shot at the start of a tough hike up to Eagle Lake. Here is a family shot from our trip to Fallen Leaf in 2011.And another family shot at the destination.Sibling Love.Scampering over rocks is just good fun.
The beauty of an alpine lake (and exactly what a pano shot was made for, be sure to click on it to get the full effect).Stopping on the trail for a water and snack break.Uncle Steve, in action, always the goof.Group shot near the end of Eagle Lake hike, Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe in background. Stunning.Lola at start of Sunday's hike down to Vikingsholm. Here's a pic of Lola during our Fallen Leaf camping trip in 2011.You'll notice Ollie in the background, doing what he loves best: filling large bodies of water with rocks. Here's a similar shot from this trip.Seriously, Papa, another f-ing trail shot? That last shot was from our hike down to Vikingsholm and Lower Eagle Falls. Ollie did an amazing job climbing back up to the trailhead. Supposedly it's only a 500-ft change in elevation but it's spread over a mile and it is non stop uphill, which is not the best way to end a hike. But, Ollie made it with only one stop and barely a complaint. Admittedly, it cost me a popsicle and lego prize as a bribe but it was well worth it.Ok, last group shot. Our last day at the base of Lower Eagle Falls. Not surprisingly, every camping trip gets easier and better and despite the occasional loss of control (by the kids and I), they were pretty amazing and this was one of the most enjoyable camping trips in recent memory. It bodes well for the rest of the summer. For those of you not bored enough, you can view the full photostream of our trip (including more of everyone and some amazing landscapes) here.xo
