New Skool

One of the several fun things about children is the parade of firsts they bring. They are loads of fun and often newsworthy (at least as far as the parents are concerned). "Firsts" probably account for better the seventy-five percent of all my journal posts over the past six years. And here is another one. The great thing about firsts is that they have usually been more fun for me then for Lola and Ollie.Tuesday was Lola's first day at her "new school" as an almost-first-grader at Sequoia Elementary's "4th R," her after-school program for her new school. Jules and I had fun taking her shopping for a new lunch bag and thinking about her lunches. School lunches–private or public–suck ass and we've really been pushing healthy-choice eating habits on them (more on this another day) so we made a special effort to include them in her new routine. One part of her new school that I've been looking forward to is walking her to and from school since it is just around the corner. I don't know, it just seems so Mayberry-ish. The 4th R is awesome. Besides all the activities they have planned for the summer–swim days, crochet, guitar/ukelele lessons, bike/skate days–they don't do naps, which means Lola will probably go to bed before 10:00pm. Woo. F'ing. Hoo.Anyways, the pic above is after our walk home on her first day, after her first water-play day (different then swim day). The whole thing is kinda cool and it means we are one step closer to her going to college at some prestigious university on the east coast!
