A Year of Daycare
Lola has been in daycare for just about a year now. (Although not for 12 continuous months due to the extra time Julie was able to spend with her. It’s been more like 8 months actually in daycare.) And I have to say it has been a wonderful experience for all of us.We have been very lucky I think to have first found Lil’ Sunflowers in Castro Valley when we lived in Oakland and now Children’s First in Sacramento. As you can see from January’s calendar above, Lola has very fun and educational activities every day. Of course some of them such as January 14th remind me of that scene in Parenthood of the little kid with a bucket on his head banging it against the wall but, hey, we can’t spend every day reading The Economist, right? The week of January 7th was “Dinosaur Week.” How fun does that sound?!She spends her days with older kids and younger kids, boys and girls, white, black, Hispanic, and Asian kids. Her teacher in the morning is from Ethiopia and one of the afternoon teachers is from Lithuania. All of the labeled items are written in English and Spanish so she probably already knows two languages better than I do.And here’s the kicker - apparently she doesn’t fuss, takes her nap on cue and even let’s Ms. Teressa put Orajel on her gums without so much as a whimper! Oh well. As long as she is having fun and learning.
